The City of Port Angeles has made considerable progress toward planning for climate resiliency since 2019. The Port Angeles Climate Resiliency Plan (CRP) was adopted in June of 2022, followed by the adoption of a CRP Implementation Plan in November of 2022. Port Angeles was selected as one of three cities in the state to participate in the Climate Pilot Program led by the Washington State Department of Commerce. The program was intended to identify climate resiliency goals and policies for integration into the Port Angeles Comprehensive Plan to ensure consistency between the CRP and the City’s future. The culmination of the pilot program in March of 2023 resulted in identifying goals and policies for integration into the Comprehensive Plan. Using this guidance as a starting point, Department of Community & Economic Development staff prepared a draft document integrating climate resiliency goals and policies into the Comprehensive Plan.
The City is also proposing to update the land use categories in the Land Use Element to reflect recent changes to Title 17 of the Port Angeles Municipal Code adopted in March of 2023 through Ordinance No. 3710.
The draft Comprehensive Plan incorporating these proposed amendments will be considered at a public hearing of the Port Angeles Planning Commission originally scheduled for May 10, 2023 at 6:00 PM and postponed by the Planning Commission to May 24, 2023 at 6:00 PM.
