[ARCHIVED] Stay Home, Stay Healthy Clarification from the Port Angeles Police Department

Police Department Squad Cars

Port Angeles Police Officers are responding to many questions from our public regarding Governor Inslee’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order. We are fielding many questions with respect to businesses who are, and who feel they need to, issue “passes” or “licenses” to their employees during the course of conducting their essential work.

Rumors of individuals or businesses needing "passes" or "licenses" to conduct essential services are NOT true. We are NOT conducting random stops, or checkpoints, of citizens as they go about their daily business in a lawful manner. If we did so, we would be significantly infringing upon the Constitutional Rights we value and protect.

We view our role more as one of education. Educating residents on how to keep themselves safe, how to keep their families safe and most importantly, to keep the rest of the community safe, especially our vulnerable populations.

PAPD is working hard to ensure public safety during this difficult time. Rest assured we will continue to serve you every minute of every day and we will always enforce the laws that keep people safe.
