With the temperatures dropping and winter approaching, the winter storms are coming. To help prepare for the storms, here are a few tips for our residents.
For those with medical equipment…….. you can be notified of planned power outages by filling out an outage notification form here https://www.cityofpa.us/FormCenter/Public-Works-Utilities-12/Life-Support-Power-Outage-Notification-87. Or, with a note from your doctor you can fill out the form at the City Hall Customer Service desk and be added to their list. Make sure you have generator back-up and/or back-up plans.
Check Port Angeles Public Works Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/City-of-Port-Angeles-Public-Works-Utilities-319774001431025/) and our website (https://www.cityofpa.us/) for alerts and information.
Stock emergency supplies, install battery-powered or battery backed-up carbon monoxide detectors and smoke detectors. Click here for an emergency supply list from Red Cross (https://www.redcross.org/get-help/how-to-prepare-for-emergencies/survival-kit-supplies.html).
Prepare your vehicle for winter. Check your brakes, lights, fluid levels, battery, tire pressure and tread depth. Consider emergency supplies like jumper cables, first aid kit, flashlight and extra batteries, tool kit, water, non-perishable foods (energy bars, crackers, dry cereal), blanket, warm clothes, flares, cell phone and charger.
Winterize your home. Visit https://www.fema.gov/media-library-data/1386191595785-e0f7fc1c9c31e15ba29a1a03447080dc/Winterize_Your_Home.pdf to help prepare.
Identify a place nearby where you can safely warm up should you lose heat in your home for an extended period of time.
