[ARCHIVED] Winter Weather Advisory

Snowy Weather Conditions

The weather forecast calls for freezing temperatures, snow, and high winds starting as early as Friday for the Peninsula. Here are a few reminders and tips:

Please be patient - the City has limited equipment and six employees available to clear 144 miles of roads.

During periods of inclement weather, if possible, limit driving and use alternate routes to avoid hills or problem areas.

Remove cars from the street - the more cars that are off the street the more efficiently we can clear the roadway.

There will be some inconvenience - to clear the snowy streets, driveways will be blocked but it cannot be avoided. Snow removal is a monumental task and we appreciate your understanding.

Icy street conditions or accumulating snowfall will initiate mobilization of deicing / sanding / plowing equipment in accordance with the following priorities:

o Priority #1 - Main arterials considered to be the minimum network which must be kept open to provide a transportation system connecting hospitals, fire stations, police stations, and emergency rescue units
o Priority #2 - All remaining arterials, selected collectors and bus routes
o Priority #3 - Other arterials completing the network covering the major traffic volume streets and providing access to all schools
o Priority #4 - All remaining streets, such as residential, with priority being given to those whose primary access is limited such as those on streets with no outlets on steep hills.
