[ARCHIVED] Stage II Water Shortage

water faucet 2

While draught conditions in the area have been moderate, extended dry weather conditions have resulted in below-normal stream flows in the western part of Washington State, including the Olympic Peninsula. The continued lack of precipitation is causing rivers to recede. The latest information as well as maps showing draught and streamflow can be found on the Department of Ecology's Statewide Conditions page

Due to low flows in the Elwha River, which influences the amount of water available to the City's water system, a Stage II Water Shortage has been declared by the City of Port Angeles. This means that immediate voluntary reductions in water consumption are encouraged. Some recommended voluntary conservation actions include:

  • Installing low-flow shower heads and faucets that are available free at City Hall.
  • Reducing frequency and volume of lawn watering, and limiting watering to early morning or evenings.
  • Collecting a rebate for installing water-efficient toilets, rain barrels, watering timers, and soil moisture meters.
  • Reducing car washing frequency.
  • Operating automatic dishwashers/clothes washers only when full.
  • Thinking about other ways to conserve water.
