Project Overview
The City of Port Angeles continues its work on the 16th Street Stormwater Retrofit Project. This project utilizes stormwater retrofit techniques to improve water quality in the Tumwater Creek and Port Angeles Harbor. As part of this effort, crews are installing three biofilters and one CDS® Hydrodynamic Separator on 16th Street, at the “C,” D,” and “E” Street intersections. These stormwater upgrades will help remove pollutants, like total suspended solids, dissolved copper, dissolved zinc and total phosphorus, from stormwater runoff before connecting into Tumwater Creek.
What residents can expect:
Next week, crews will resume construction at the intersection of 16th and C Streets. Work will include the removal of existing asphalt and concrete to prepare for the installation of a Biopod Stormwater Biofiltration System. Excavation work will occur, including use of a crane in the right of way.
Construction will begin on Monday, November 3, and continue through mid-December. Project working hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. During working hours:
- The intersection of 16th and C Streets will be closed to traffic. A detour will be in place with flaggers onsite to direct traffic.
- The sidewalk in this area will also be closed; a pedestrian detour will be in place.
- “No parking” signage will be temporarily installed on C Street adjacent to the construction zone.
Entrances to businesses will remain open during construction.
