City Logo

A Tsunami Advisory has been issued for the Washington coast and Strait of Juan de Fuca following an 8.7 earthquake in Kamchatka, Russia, at approximately 4:30 p.m. this afternoon (PDT). A Tsunami Advisory is issued when a tsunami with potential to generate strong currents or waves dangerous to those in or near the water is expected.

Residents are advised to stay out of water and away from shore, including harbors and marinas.

Those living aboard vessels in the marina are strongly advised to ensure their boats are securely tied off and to keep a “go-bag” packed and ready in case of emergency.

Waves are expected to arrive to Port Angeles at 12:20 a.m. and be 1 foot or less.

Please be aware that strong and erratic currents are expected to impact Port Angeles beaches, marina, and harbor. Dangerous currents are expected to last for 12 to 24 hours.
