[ARCHIVED] 8th Street Paving Project Update – Overnight Road Closures Scheduled June 9-11

street closure 4

As part of the 8th Street Paving Project, residents and commuters should be advised of the following traffic notice.

Road Closure Notice for June 9-11

The City of Port Angeles will perform pavement marking work on Monday, June 9, through Wednesday, June 11. To minimize impacts to traffic, work will be done overnight between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

During these times, 8th Street (between Lincoln and “A” Streets) will close to vehicle traffic. Signed detours will be in place. Access for residents between the 8th Street Bridges will be maintained at all times via Cedar and Pine Streets. The roadway will reopen at 6:00 a.m. to allow for daytime usage.

This work is weather dependent and subject to change.

Please be careful when traveling near the work zone. Drive slowly, be on the alert, and follow directions provided by traffic control personnel and signage.

About the 8th Street Paving Project

This project will remove and replace existing asphalt on 8th Street (between Lincoln and “A” Streets) and resurface the 8th Street Bridges. As part of this work, driving lanes will be reconfigured to include new bike lanes in both eastbound and westbound directions.  In addition, pedestrian routes along 8th Street will be upgraded to meet current Americans with Disability Act (ADA) standards. Existing sidewalk curb ramps will be replaced throughout the project area, and new Accessible Pedestrian Signal (APS) buttons will be installed at the intersection of Cherry and Pine Streets.

To date, 40 sidewalk ramps have been upgraded to meet ADA standards. This includes the installation of new curbs and gutters, sidewalks and stamped concrete at each location. Existing asphalt on 8th Street (between Lincoln and “A” Streets) has been removed and the roadway fully resurfaced.

We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as work continues. For more information, please visit our website or contact the Public Works & Utilities Department at (360) 417-4800 or publicworks@cityofpa.us.
