[ARCHIVED] City Announces Appointment of Scott Curtin to Director of Public Works and Utilities

New Director of PWU

Following an extensive recruitment effort, the City of Port Angeles is pleased to announce the appointment of Scott Curtin as new Director of Public Works & Utilities. Curtin, who joins the City this week, will continue the progress made by retiring Director Mike Healy to advance capital projects, prioritize the readiness of critical infrastructure, and promote a customer-first approach to the implementation of rules and regulations that support the development community.

Curtin brings to Port Angeles a wealth of experience spanning both the public and private sectors. Most recently, he served as Public Works Director for the City of Kenai in Alaska. Prior to that, Curtin held numerous project management roles in municipal government and in water and sewer utility districts. His background also includes thirteen years within the private sector, where he focused on master planned residential developments and construction management.

“Tracy and I are excited and grateful to have finally arrived here in Port Angeles.  I would like to thank the Administration, City Council, and Director Healy for the opportunity to have some overlap which has been invaluable to our transition.  I can respectfully say Port Angeles has an impressive team of professionals and I look forward to the opportunity of continuing upon the great work that has been completed to date.  I would like to wish Mike and his family all our best as they embark on their next chapter, and I hope to see all of you out and about in the community in the days to come.”

Scott Curtin will succeed Mike Healy, who is retiring after serving the community as both interim and permanent director of Public Works & Utilities. Over the last two years, Healy has been instrumental in the City’s progress, advancing critical capital projects, securing vital funding through multiple grants, and implementing policy changes that enhance the overall efficiency of the City. He has also played an important role in the filling of long-standing vacant positions, including the recognition and promotion of many Public Works employees.

“As I depart the great City of Port Angeles to begin life’s next adventure, I am so very happy to be passing the torch to Scott Curtin – an experienced and talented Public Works Director who I know will do a tremendous job on behalf of the residents of this wonderful community,” says retiring director Mike Healy.

To facilitate a smooth transition, Director Healy will remain with the City though October 4. During this time, he will work closely with Mr. Curtin to ensure he is fully updated on the many projects and initiatives currently underway with the Public Works Department.

“We are immensely grateful for the contributions that Director Healy has made during his time in Port Angeles and wish him the best in retirement,” says City Manager Nathan A. West. “As we look ahead to a new chapter, I am excited to welcome Director Curtin and fully confident that his leadership will continue to guide our efforts forward.”
