[ARCHIVED] Localized Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Issued August 28, 2024

Boil Water Advisory

On Wednesday afternoon, August 28, a water main break was discovered in the West 14th Street area, between South N Street and South O Street (see map below). This break impacts approximately 40 water utility customers in the area. Impacted customers have been notified via door hanger.

City crews are actively working to repair the water main. The work is expected to be complete at approximately 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, at which time water will be restored.

Once water is restored, a precautionary boil water notice is advised for all homes impacted by the break. These homes should use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, cooking, making ice, and brushing teeth.

  • Bring water to a rolling boil for 1 minute to kill bacteria and other organisms that may have been introduced into the water.
  • Let the water cool before using.
  • Tap water is safe for showering, bathing, and other household uses including washing dishes in the dishwasher, as long as the heat/sanitizing cycle and commercial dishwashing detergent are used.

Following repairs, the water main will be disinfected and flushed, and the City will take water samples to ensure safety. The City expects water sample test results on Friday, August 30. Once satisfactory test results have been received, the precautionary boil water notice will be lifted. Impacted customers will be notified by door hanger.

If you experience discolored water, please flush your water lines by running water in a bathtub or faucet until the water runs clear.

If your water was not shut off or you have not experienced low water pressure on August 28, 2024, you are not impacted by this notice and you do not need to boil your water.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. Please know, protecting your health and safety is our highest priority. If you have any questions about your water service, please contact the Public Works & Utilities Department at (360) 417-4800 or publicworks@cityofpa.us.
