[ARCHIVED] Localized Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Issued September 12, 2023

Boil Water Advisory

On Tuesday morning, September 12, 2023, a water main break was discovered in the McDougal Street area of Port Angeles. This break impacts approximately 102 water utility customers in this area. Impacted customers are being contacted via pre-recorded phone message.

City crews are actively working to repair the water main. The work is expected to be complete at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at which time water will be restored.

Once water is restored, a precautionary boil water notice is advised for all homes impacted by the break. These homes should use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, cooking, making ice, and brushing teeth.

  • To eliminate bacteria and other organisms that may have been introduced into the water, tap water should be brought to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute. Let the water cool before using.
  • Tap water is safe for showering, bathing, and other household uses, including washing dishes in the dishwasher as long as the heat/sanitizing cycle and commercial dishwashing detergent are used.

Following repairs, the water main will be disinfected and flushed, and the City will take water samples to ensure safety.  The City expects water sample test results on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. When satisfactory test results have been received, the precautionary boil water notice will be lifted. Impacted customers will be notified by pre-recorded phone message.

If you experience discolored water, please flush your water lines by running water in a bathtub or faucet until the water runs clear.

If your water was not shut off or you have not experienced low water pressure on September 12th 2023, you are not impacted by this notice and you do not need to boil your water.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. Please know, protecting your health and safety is our highest priority. If you have any questions about your water service, please contact the Public Works & Utilities Department at (360) 417-4800 or publicworks@cityofpa.us.
