[ARCHIVED] Press Release: Port Angeles City Council to Hold Swearing-In Ceremony on February 7th

Press Release 2

During its January 24th Special Meeting, the Port Angeles City Council voted to appoint Amy Miller to fill Council Position No. 2. Ms. Miller will take office immediately after being sworn in and serve until the results of the November 2023 General Election have been certified. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the swearing-in ceremony, set to take place on February 7th at 4:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

Position No. 2 became vacant after former Council member Mike French was elected to serve as Clallam County Commissioner. After publishing notice of the vacancy, the City Council received eight valid and complete applications for the position. Of those eight, the Council selected three candidates for interviews during the January 24th open meeting: Amy Miller, Andrew Schwab, and Mark Hodgson. Following interviews, the Council voted unanimously to appoint Ms. Miller to Position No. 2 on the Port Angeles City Council.

The appointment installs Miller to serve as Council member until the results of the November 2023 General Election have been certified. In the 2023 election, a person will be elected to Position No. 2 by the people of Port Angeles. That person will serve out the remainder of the position’s regular term, which is to December 31, 2025. Miller, along with all other qualified citizens, will be eligible to run for election in 2023. Those interested may file a declaration for candidacy beginning May 15, 2023. A subsequent election for Position No. 2 will be held in November 2025.
