[ARCHIVED] Press Release: PA Wins Bid to Host Gold Cup Finals

Parks And Rec

Lincoln Park BMX and Port Angeles Parks & Recreation are excited to announce that we will be hosting the USA BMX 2022 Gold Cup Finals this September 15th through 18th. The competition will include participants of all ages who will be here to compete in this Gold Cup Northwest Series and will be presented by DK Bikes.  We are honored to be hosting an event that will have many local qualifiers for the finals line up and is expected to bring a total of 2,000 racers for three days of racing with an expected attendance of 6,000-7,000 people to Port Angeles. Our community has had great success with hosting events such as the Big Hurt, North West Cup, North Olympic Discovery Marathon, and Ride the Hurricane. These events and the success of Lincoln Park BMX went a long way towards our ability to compete with other towns to win the bid for this race.

Sean Coleman, Lincoln Park BMX Track Operator states, “Each year, we get to see countless smiling faces of our BMX riders as they practice and race. Much of this success is begins with the community and a variety of local businesses who pitch in. This support has allowed us to enhance our program and put us in a position to receive this Gold Cup Series."

Corey Delikat, Parks & Recreation Director states, “The Lincoln Park BMX Association was established as a non-profit in 2017.  Because of the dedicated hard work of Sean Colman, volunteers, and local businesses, the Lincoln Park BMX Track has turned into one of the best outdoor tracks in the county.  Because of this, and sponsorship from the Red Lion Hotel, we will be hosting a regional Gold Cup Series that will be welcoming thousands of people to our local economy for this event.  Lincoln Park BMX has been amazing to work with and, if not building a new outdoor BMX track wasn’t enough, they lead the charge for the new Pump Track at Erickson Playfield that will be finished in June.”
