On April 5, 2022, Port Angeles City Council voted to stop geotechnical analysis of the Volunteer Practice Field, located at West 18th and South L Streets. Additionally, Council directed staff to move forward with due diligence of an alternative site, located at 19th and O Streets.
During Tuesday’s special meeting, City Council received input from community members on the recent consideration of Volunteer Practice Field as a potential site for a Joint Public Safety Facility. Earlier this year, Council authorized staff to move forward with a geotechnical analysis of the property in order to further determine its suitability as the site for the proposed facility.
Following the special meeting, Council discussed a resolution put forward by staff, which would ensure youth recreational activities on the main Volunteer Field be secure in perpetuity, should the potential site be selected for the proposed facility. After careful consideration of the public comment received that evening, the resolution was not passed. Instead, Council moved to direct staff to stop the geotechnical analysis of the Volunteer Practice Field site. The motion carried 5-1.
Additionally, Council moved to direct staff to perform due diligence of an alternative site located at 19th and O Streets, as recommended by Clallam County. The motion carried 4-2.
