[ARCHIVED] Press Release: Upcoming Olympic Discovery Trail Closure and Repairs

Press Release

On Monday, September 27, 2021, the Parks & Recreation Department and contractor, 2 Grade Construction, will begin repair work on the Olympic Discovery Trail. The purpose is to repair damage from previous winter storms and slides, and to prepare the trail for the upcoming winter season.

The trail will be closed to through traffic from East of the Rayonier property (Ennis Creek) to the Morse Creek Trailhead, beginning September 27 through October 1, 2021, between the hours of 7:30am to 4:30pm.

There will be two repair projects this fall.  The focus of the first project will be repairing exposed trail sections with compromised armoring that are already under the State’s HPA permit between OMC and Gales Addition. The second project will focus on sections of the West of Ennis Creek area, also with compromised armoring.

Once these sections have been fortified and repaired, efforts will be put towards culverts and stormwater ditches needing to be cleaned and cleared of debris. This may also require some periodic trail closures, yet to be determined.

2 Grade Construction will also be an on-call contractor to assist the City with winter storm events, such as landslides, tree falls and mud transport.

The Parks & Recreation and Public Works & Utilities Departments are very pleased to begin this project, and more importantly, to have the ability to maintain and preserve the trail.
