[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: Project and Road Work Updates – Week of August 18, 2025

Lauridsen Chip Seal Project

Preparation work will take place on Wednesday, August 20, for the Lauridsen Chip Seal Project (TR0624 in the Capital Facilities Plan). Chip sealing includes the application of liquid asphalt and chipped road rock to seal the road’s surface and extend its lifespan. As part of this project, crews will apply two layers of liquid asphalt, known as a double chip seal treatment, and road striping on Lauridsen Boulevard and L Street (between Tumwater Truck Route and 18th Street). See map below for details.

What to expect:

On Wednesday, August 20, crews will begin preparation with the removal of existing road markings. Chip seal work will begin on Monday, August 25, and is expected to be complete on Tuesday, August 26. Project working hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

During this work, drivers can expect alternating one-lane, two-way traffic. Please plan for an additional 5-10 minutes of travel time if traveling the corridor.  Please be careful when traveling through or near the work zone.  Residents should drive slowly, be on the alert, and follow directions provided by traffic control personnel, signage, and signals.

After chip seal work is complete, a curing period is necessary before permanent pavement markings can be installed. Permanent marking installation will take approximately one to two days. This work is expected to take place two weeks after the chip seal is complete.

Marine Drive Paving Project

Construction will begin on Monday, August 18, for the Marine Drive Paving Project (TR0324 in the 2026-2030 Capital Facilities Plan).  This project includes a 2-inch overlay of Marine Drive, from Hill Street to the mill bridge. This work also includes spot repairs to the base of the pavement, surface drainage improvements, and the installation of ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps at the Hill Street-Olympic Discovery Trail connection.

What to expect:

On Monday, August 18, crews will begin preparing for asphalt removal. During this work, drivers can expect alternating one-lane, two-way traffic.  Please plan for an additional 5-10 minutes of travel time if traveling to or from Ediz Hook.

Please be careful when traveling through or near the work zone.  Residents should drive slowly, be on the alert, and follow directions provided by traffic control personnel, signage, and signals.

Typical project working hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  While we do our best to minimize impacts during construction, some temporary inconveniences may occur as work takes place.

Construction is currently scheduled for completion on Tuesday, October 7.
