[ARCHIVED] Application Window Now Open for City Council Vacancy

City Seeking Applicants for City Council

Port Angeles City Council Member Brendan Meyer (Position No. 7) submitted his resignation to the City Council, effective June 30, 2025. State law provides that City Council shall appoint a qualified person to fill the vacant position within 90 days.

The appointment process is now open. The City Council is inviting qualified individuals to apply for the vacant seat. The person appointed to Position No. 7 will take office immediately and serve until the results of the November 2027 General Election are certified.

The timeline for filling the vacancy is as follows:

  • July 2, 2025: The application window opens
  • August 4, 2025: Applications are due to the City Clerk by 4:00 p.m.
  • September 2, 2025: City Council will interview candidates and appoint a new Council member

To be eligible, applicants:

  • Must be a registered voter of the City of Port Angeles;
  • Must have continuously resided within Port Angeles city limits for a minimum of one year prior to appointment to the Council; and
  • Must hold no other public office or employment under the city government except as authorized by RCW 42.23.

A kiosk is available at City Hall for online application submission. Please contact the City Clerk or stop by City Hall, located at 321 East 5th Street, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. if this service is needed.

About the Port Angeles City Council

The City Council acts as the legislative and policy-making body for the City of Port Angeles. It consists of seven members who are elected by the citizens of Port Angeles for four-year terms. Members do not represent any particular district or area of the city. City Council positions are non-partisan.

Regular City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. From time to time, City Council will hold additional meeting or work sessions in order to review the City’s budget, other planning documents, or matters of urgent concern.

Other meetings and activities may include briefings with the City Manager, community meetings with liaison assignments, regional and statewide conferences, ribbon cuttings and other community events. Some travel is expected.

The duties of a City Council member will involve a minimum commitment of 20-25 hours per month on Council-related work and activities.
