The Jones Street Reservoir valve replacement project is underway and progressing steadily. However, the project schedule has been pushed back slightly to accommodate for some necessary field revisions. This current ongoing period of city-wide reduced water pressure will need to continue through the weekend and into early next week. The 2 million gallon reservoir is expected to begin being brought back into service early next week. As the reservoir slowly refills, residents should experience gradual increases in water pressure as the week progresses. Full restoration of water pressure and fire flow is expected by the end of day Friday (8/8), if not sooner. Thus far, voluntary water conservation measures are proving to be effective at ensuring no one goes without water during this time. The City is asking all residents to please continue limiting water use to necessary activities (drinking, cooking, basic hygiene, etc.) and voluntarily restricting less critical uses like watering lawns, washing cars, etc. The City will send out a notice when the reservoir is back in full service and the voluntary water use restriction has been lifted.

Important Reminder:
The City of Port Angeles has begun the Jones Street Reservoir Valve Replacement Project (WT0125 in the Capital Facilities Plan). This planned water system improvement will replace a failing altitude valve at the reservoir, which is necessary to ensure reliable water pressure for our utility customers. Work began on July 17 and is expected to be complete during the first week of August.
What this means for you:
To complete this project, a temporary period of reduced water pressure is necessary. This period of lower pressure is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 28. Water pressure is expected to be fully restored by Friday, August 1.
Between Monday and Friday, residents and businesses may experience reduced, lower-than-normal water pressure. Additionally, private and commercial fire sprinkler systems may give a low-water pressure alarm. These systems vary by manufacturer; please review your system in advance so you can be prepared to respond to this scenario, should it occur.
During this time, it is important that we work together to conserve water. Please limit water use to necessary activities such as drinking, cooking, basic hygiene, etc. Please restrict unnecessary activities like lawn watering, filling pools, washing cars, etc. Voluntary water conservation efforts will help ensure that reductions in water pressure are kept to a minimum and that no one is without water during this period.
The City will send out a notice when the work is complete and the voluntary water use restriction has been lifted. When normal conditions are resumed, some water utility customers may notice minor discoloration in the water. To resolve this issue, simply run your faucet(s) for a few minutes until the tap runs clear. If the water pressure does not return to normal or the discoloration in the water doesn’t correct itself after flushing, please notify the City using the contact number below.
