UPDATED JUNE 6, 2025
The project schedule has been revised, further minimizing impacts to traffic. Closures on 8th Street will occur in smaller segments each night.
The City of Port Angeles will perform pavement marking work on Monday, June 9, through Wednesday, June 11. Work will be done overnight to minimize impacts to traffic. Residents can expect the following closures, with signed detours in place:
- Monday, June 9 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.: 8th Street will close to vehicle traffic between Lincoln Street and S Cherry Street. Both the 8th/Lincoln and 8th/Cherry intersections will remain open.
- Tuesday, June 10 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.: 8th Street will close to vehicle traffic between S Cherry Street and S Cedar Street, including the bridge. Both the 8th/Cherry and 8th/Cedar intersections will remain open.
- Wednesday, June 11 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.: A mobile closure of 8th Street will take place between S Oak Street and S “A” Street. This includes a temporary closure of the bridge. This means work will progress in sections, and portions of the roadway will reopen as crews complete work in that area. Both the 8th/Oak and 8th/A intersections will remain open.
The roadway will reopen to traffic each day at 6:00 a.m. Please be careful when traveling near the work zone. Drive slowly, be on the alert, and follow directions provided by traffic control personnel and signage.
Please note that this work is weather dependent and subject to change.
This project will remove and replace existing asphalt on 8th Street (between Lincoln and “A” Streets) and resurface the 8th Street Bridges. As part of this work, driving lanes will be reconfigured to include new bike lanes in both eastbound and westbound directions. In addition, pedestrian routes along 8th Street will be upgraded to meet current Americans with Disability Act (ADA) standards. Existing sidewalk curb ramps will be replaced throughout the project area, and new Accessible Pedestrian Signal (APS) buttons will be installed at the intersection of Cherry and Pine Streets.
To date, 40 sidewalk ramps have been upgraded to meet ADA standards. This includes the installation of new curbs and gutters, sidewalks and stamped concrete at each location. Existing asphalt on 8th Street (between Lincoln and “A” Streets) has been removed and the roadway fully resurfaced.
