Chip seal road work will begin in two weeks in Port Angeles. This maintenance operation includes the application of liquid asphalt and chipped road rock to seal the road’s surface and extend its lifespan.
Work will begin on Monday, August 23, and continue through Thursday, August 29, at the following locations:
- 8th Street, between the 8th Street Bridge and South I Street
- South I Street, between West 4th Street and West 16th Street
After chip seal work is complete, a curing period is necessary before permanent pavement markings can be installed. Permanent marking installation will take approximately one to two days. This work will be complete by September 13.
What You Can Expect During Chip Seal Maintenance Operations
Project working hours will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. While we do our best to minimize the impact of roadwork, some temporary inconveniences may occur as work takes place. During this project, residents can expect:
- Loose gravel
- Occasional traffic delays while waiting for pilot cars and Traffic Control personnel to direct residents through the project area
- Installation of temporary traffic signs and other safety equipment
- No street parking during chip sealing activities (August 12-14). No parking signs will be placed on the road as a reminder for residents.
Please be careful when traveling through or near the work areas. Residents should drive slowly, be on the alert, and follow directions given by Traffic Control personnel and signage.
