On April 16, 2024, the City Council approved the creation of three new positions aimed at strengthening the capabilities of the Port Angeles Fire Department and the Department of Community & Economic Development. These positions align with the Council’s strategic goal of increasing capacity to better serve our growing community.
Firefighter Paramedic and Firefighter EMT
The Port Angeles Fire Department, one of the busiest single-station fire departments in the nation, will introduce a new Firefighter Paramedic and Firefighter EMT to the station roster. These positions will provide critical coverage and supplemental relief to a department that has experienced a 55% increase in call volume over the last ten years.
Building Inspector
In the Department of Community & Economic Development, a new Building Inspector position has been approved. This position will ensure efficient inspections and operations, particularly in the oversight of the City’s short-term lodging program.
The approval of these positions comes as part of the City Council’s goal to increase capacity across City departments and address the growing needs of the community. Last year, the Council approved eight other positions as part of the 2024 City Budget.
“These new positions will ensure our departments have the resources necessary to continue to provide exceptional service,” says Port Angeles Mayor Kate Dexter. “Most importantly, these positions will ensure the continued safety of our community. We look forward to the positive impact they will have.”
