Get to know your City Council

City Council plays an important role in shaping the future of Port Angeles. Our City operates under a City Manager/Council form of government, which combines the policy leadership of elected officials with the professional management of an appointed City Manager.

As the City’s legislative and policy-making body, the Council is responsible for adopting and amending local laws, approving the annual budget, and setting policies and priorities that affect the quality of life in Port Angeles. With direction and policy guidance from Council, the City Manager directs departments and work programs to meet the needs and priorities of our community.

Conceptual Design Option 1 (Monumental Stairs) and Conceptual Design Option 2 (Community Plaza)

Provide input on conceptual design options for the Laurel Street Stairs Replacement Project

The City of Port Angeles invites residents to weigh in on conceptual design options for the Laurel Street Stairs Replacement Project.

Learn more and take a short survey by March 9!

At the Parks, Recreation & Facilities Commission meeting on February 19, City staff presented a brief history of the project and introduced two conceptual design options. Community members in attendance were then invited to share feedback on those designs through an onsite activity.

If you missed the meeting, you can watch the recorded presentation online and share your thoughts by completing the online survey by Monday, March 9.

Feedback will be shared with the Commission for review before the next meeting on March 19. On that day, the Commission is expected to select one design for recommendation to the City Council. Once the design is approved and finalized, City staff will pursue grant funding for construction.

different views of routine water main flushing maintenance into street

Routine water main flushing

The City Water Utility Division has begun routine water main flushing. Water main flushing is an important part of maintaining water quality and ensures both hydrants and the water distribution system are operating properly. This work will continue system-wide over the next several weeks between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. (Monday through Friday).

Water is safe to drink and use throughout the flushing process. However, you may experience brief periods of low water pressure, a slight discoloration and possible sediment in your water.

If you experience discoloration, simply run cold water from a faucet for several minutes until the water runs clear. Avoid doing laundry during flushing hours, as discolored water may stain clothing.

We appreciate your patience as we perform this essential system maintenance. If you have any questions about this work, please contact the Water Utility Division at 360-417-4800 or publicworks@cityofpa.us.

Participate in the Department of Natural Resources Elwha Watershed Survey

The Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) wants to learn more about your interests in relation to the Elwha Watershed Study. This is an opportunity for you to voice your interest in the Elwha Watershed, including what topics interest you the most, such as recreation, watershed restoration, biodiversity conservation, etc.

In 2025, the Washington State Legislature directed the DNR to conduct an analysis of the ecological and conservation values of the Elwha Watershed on state-owned lands managed by DNR. That analysis will be provided as a report to the Legislature by October 1, 2026, and will include the following components:

  1. A Washington Natural Heritage Program site survey to identify rare flora, native ecological communities
  2. Locations of structurally complex forests
  3. Scenic or other natural features worthy of consideration for conservation
  4. Current uses, including recreation and cultural practices
  5. Identification of lands appropriate for Natural Area Preserves (NAP) or Natural Resource Conservation Areas (NRCA) conservation, and if applicable a proposed boundary, as well as acknowledgement that such lands will be developed through the process described in 79.70 and 79.71 RCW.

Community engagement is a key part of the reporting process. Please take a few minutes to complete the online survey and offer your input to DNR on the Elwha Watershed and its importance to you.
