The City of Port Angeles is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Healy as permanent Director of Public Works & Utilities. Director Healy, who has served in an interim role since September 2022, brings over 30 years of valuable public works management experience to the City.
As Interim Director, Healy has made significant contributions to both the Public Works & Utilities Department and the Port Angeles community. During his tenure, he has helped to oversee the implementation and completion of critical infrastructure projects; initiated the resolution of challenging issues, including glass recycling and green fleet transition; and put forward key changes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of City staff. He has also played an important role in the filling of several long-vacant positions within the department.
“What called me to stay is the beauty of the region, the welcoming nature that residents have greeted me with, and most importantly, the talented team of good people that I have an opportunity of working alongside each day,” said Director Healy.
As permanent Director, Healy will continue to manage and direct the work of the department, comprised of Electrical Distribution; Engineering; Equipment Services; Solid Waste Collections, including the Regional and Blue Mountain Transfer Stations, recycling and landfill management; Stormwater; Street Maintenance; Water and Wastewater Systems including treatment plants; and the City’s conservation programs.
Healy has built an extensive career in public works administration. Prior to the City of Port Angeles, he held key positions at City and County agencies, including in California, Wisconsin and Illinois. He has served both as a Member and Chair of various national committees for the American Public Works Association, including their Water Resources Management and Government Affairs committees, and is a Donald C. Stone Fellow whereby, he serves as a mentor to the next generation of Public Works management professionals.
“With more than 30 years of experience in public works and public infrastructure management, Mike is a true expert in his field. I am fully confident in his leadership and know that he will continue to guide the Public Works Department toward success,” said City Manager Nathan A. West. “I am thrilled that he has agreed to serve in this capacity and look forward to the continued growth of our City with Mike as a permanent member of our team.”
