Utility Financial Assistance, Rent Payment Relief and Donations for City Residents in Hardship Situations (See Forms Below)
Utility and Rent Payment Assistance
The City of Port Angeles recognizes that there is a substantial need for financial assistance during this difficult time. In response to that need, the City has allocated:
- $250,000 for utility bill relief for City residents and businesses, and
- $50,000 + an additional $37,000 for residential rental assistance.
Utility and rent payment relief is available for impacted businesses and City residents, click the image below to access the COVID-19 Financial Assistance Application.
Please note: This assistance is only available to those who have been financially burdened by the effects of the COVID-19 emergency situation.
Please understand there is a limited amount of funding. Once depleted, the assistance will no longer be available unless additional funding is obtained through the state or federal government. This financial assistance is in addition to the discounts currently offered and provided to low income utility customers. Keep in mind:
- Approved amounts for utility bill relief will be credited to utility bills.
- Approved rental assistance funding will be mailed to qualifying applicants.
- Proof of income, layoff and household information is required to consider applications complete.
- Appropriate documentation may include a letter from your employer, pay stubs, employee identification or a copy of your Department of Revenue business license.
At this time, the City will discontinue shutting off utilities due to late payment. Instead we will continue making payment plan arrangements with customers. No interest will be charged on late payments until this emergency situation has ended.
Donations for Community Member Assistance
COVID-19 is creating new needs, while putting enormous financial pressure on many in our community. The economic uncertainty caused by the pandemic is especially difficult for our residents with limited financial reserves to carry them through lean times. In an effort to respond to the economic uncertainty faced by many in our community, the City is accepting donations, 100% of which will be used to support local residents who cannot pay their utility bill.
Donations will be credited to individual utility accounts based on qualification of utility bill assistance due to the COVID-19 crisis. Any donated funds remaining after this emergency situation will be sent to OlyCap for continued financial assistance for City residents in need and will not be returned.
