The Regional Transfer Station Features & Facilities The Regional Transfer Station
opened in January 2007. The Regional Transfer Station contains separate facilities for different types of waste.
Garbage Disposal / Transfer Station Located after the scales, this new building accepts regular garbage.
Hours: 9am - 5pm / Monday - Saturday
Customers unload inside the 17,000 square foot building and the waste is compacted for shipment to Finley Buttes Regional Landfill in Boardman, Oregon.
Minimum Charge $10.00 up to 160 pounds
Municipal Solid Waste: $120.10 per ton
Metal for Recycling and Appliances: $60.05 per ton
Must be in separate loads to qualify for the lower rate.
There is an additional environmental fee of $20.00 per refrigerator or freezer
Tires: $120.10 per ton
Asbestos: $344.00 per ton
Contaminated Soils: $180.75 per ton
Stumps, sod, rocks, dirt and soil: $120.10 per ton
Construction and demolition debris is accepted, but customers are encouraged to find local resources for recycling or reusing of these materials. Hermann Brothers / Evergreen Fibre at 404 Eclipse Industrial Parkway in Port Angeles accepts clean wood debris, limbs, clean demolition debris, plywood, pallets and brush from commercial haulers only. Fee is $15.00 per ton with a $15.00 minimum. Call 360-452-3341 for more details.

Permits are required for the disposal of building demolition debris, contaminated soil and asbestos.

Household Hazardous Waste / Moderate Risk Waste Facility
The Moderate Risk Waste Facility opened in January 2007. This facility is part of the Regional Transfer Station located at 3501 West 18th Street in Port Angeles. Hours are from 11am - 4pm / Wednesday & Saturday.
Located after the scales, this facility will accept typical household hazardous waste that is processed, stored and later transferred for safe disposal or recycling.
Beginning in January of 2009, residents, government and schools, and small offices can take computers and televisions to two locations for free recycling: Goodwill in Port Angeles (452-2440) and Ecycle NW in Blynn (681-8645). For large quantities be sure to call ahead.

Latex Paints
Latex paints are not hazardous waste and can be solidified and disposed as regular garbage. Use cat litter or a special paint solidifying products available at some hardware stores. Consider giving extra paint away - use the website 2good2toss.com or local newspapers and radio to advertise.
Rechargeable Batteries
Alkaline household batteries (A, AA, AAA, C, D, etc) are not hazardous and can be disposed of in your regular trash.

Reuse Area
Products in good condition, such as stain, fertilizer, oil-based paints, household cleaners or plant food are separated for re-use. Residents can visit the reuse area and take home products (during facility open hours only).
Fluorescent Tubes Fluorescent tubes are recycled Ecycle NW on 40 Harrison Road in Carlsborg - phone 360-681-8645 or at ASM Signs at 1327 E. First Street in Port Angeles. ASM does charge a fee for this service. Their phone number is 360-452-7785.
Compact Fluorescent Lighting (CFLs)
CFLs can be recycle at the Home Depot in Sequim at no charge.
Disposing of Syringes
If you use syringes to control diabetes, allergies, or any other medical symptom, your loose syringes should be disposed of properly.
Oil, Anti-Freeze, and Metals Recycling Drop-Off Area
Located after the scales and adjacent to the Moderate Risk Waste Facility.
Hours: 9am - 5pm / Monday - Saturday
No charge for motor oil, auto batteries, anti-freeze and metals.

Located before the scales,at the Regional Transfer Station, this center accepts certain kinds of household recyclables. Hours: 9am - 5pm / Monday - Saturday
Compost Facilty - Yard Waste Located after the scales, at the Regional Transfer Station, this facility accepts yard waste.

Yard Waste $44.95 per ton
Minimum Charge $5.00 for first 220 lbs
Yard waste must be in a separate load to qualify for this rate.
Stumps, sod, rocks, or soil must be disposed as garbage and at regular garbage rates.
Yard waste includes branches (no larger then 4” in diameter) grass clippings, leaves, weeds, and plant clippings. Please no fruit of vegetable debris, stumps, sod, soil, or lumber. These materials need to be disposed as garbage.

"Garden Glory" compost is available for purchase at the Composting Facility in the Regional Transfer Station.

Compost can be purchased Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Call the Transfer Station Informational Line at 360-417-4875 and press "5" for more information.
This product is a mixture of yard waste and biosolids composted at the Composting Facility. Yard waste includes grass, leaves, branches, and other yard debris from residences and commercial activities in Clallam County. Biosolids come from the treatment of wastewater at the City Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The City produces approximately 3000 cubic yards of compost each year. These biosolids are treated and strictly monitored in accordance with regulatory requirements. The City of Port Angeles certifies that this product complies with all applicable standards:

How to Purchase Compost
Your truck or trailer must be empty. No garbage or yard waste can be unloaded when picking up compost. Stop at the scale house for a compost card. Compost is loaded by Transfer Station staff directly into your truck or trailer. Bags and other containers are not accepted.
Compost is available for purchase Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. The Facility is closed all legal holidays. Call the Transfer Station Information Line at 360-417-4875 and press 5 for compost information and availability.
How to Use Compost The compost can be used as a soil amendment on lawns and gardens. The Washington Organics Recycling Council (WORC) recommends the following application rates: 1/2 inch for lawns and 1-2 inches for gardens.
For established lawns, plug-aerate the lawn and rake compost down into the grass. For gardens, mix the compost into the top several inches of existing soil.

The City of Port Angeles participates in the Seal of Testing Assurance Program, sponsored by the US Composting Council.
This is an international testing program which certifies that compost products have been tested, on a defined schedule, in accordance with proven, compost-specific analytical procedures.
Cash and checks are accepted. Make checks payable to "DM Disposal". Sorry, no credit cards.
From Port Angeles:
Head east on Highway 101 for approximately 5.5 miles. Turn right onto Blue Mountain Road. Proceed about 1 mile to the station. Gate is on the right.
From Sequim:
Head west on Highway 101 for approximately 6.5 miles. Turn left onto blue Mountain Road. Proceed about 1 mile to the station.

Waste disposal is $204.65 per ton or $0.10 per pound.
Minimum charge is $5.00 for 50 pounds.
Large appliances, furniture larger than 4 feet x 4 feet, construction debris, tires, and yard waste are not accepted, but can be taken to the Regional Transfer Station in Port Angeles.
Recycling is at no charge. There are 4 drop boxes for recycling: cardboard, mixed paper, mixed containers, and glass (separated by color). Mixed containers include tin cans, aluminum cans, and plastic bottles and jugs. No other plastics are accepted.

Credit Application Subject to approval, the City of Port Angeles will establish an account for individuals or businesses that make frequent trips to the Regional Transfer Station.

The Clallam County Solid Waste Advisory Committeedevelops programs and policies concerning solid waste handling and disposal. The committee is made up of citizens, public interest groups, businesses, waste management industry, and local elected officials.
