Wastewater Utility (Sewer)
The Wastewater Utility provides for the collection and treatment of wastewater received from residential, commercial and industrial uses.
The wastewater system has 117 miles of sanitary and combined sewers ranging from 4 to 48 inches in diameter, 10 pump stations, a secondary wastewater treatment plant and about 7,200 service connections.
The treatment plant has capacity projected to be adequate until 2010 and a design population of 24,800 (1999 population is about 19,000). Rates are based on water usage.
INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER PRETREATMENT PROGRAM Posted February 16, 2010 - The City's Wastewater Utility is required by the Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE) to update its industrial pretreatment program to comply with our Industrial National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit, and to comply with Environmental Protection Agency standards.
In addition to revising the Port Angeles municipal code, the updated program will specifically address the management of septic waste and the accumulation of grease in the sanitary sewer system.
City Council will be considering this issue at an upcoming City Council meeting - with exact date of the public hearing yet to be scheduled and will be posted here when determined.
