Did You Know That............. City Residents can sign up for curbside recycling and yard debris services, or they may take these items to the Regional Transfer Station for disposal.
BACKYARD COMPOSTING
Residents are encourage to compost grass, leaves, and plant clippings in their backyard.
Food scraps (fruit and vegetables only) can also be composted. Composting reduces the amount of garbage and yard waste that needs to be collected. Finished compost can be used as a soil amendment around your flowers and shrubs.
Public workshops are presented throughout the year by "Master Composters", trained volunteers with a passion for composting. Watch for announcements in newspapers and on this web page.
The Master Composter Training is offered in late October and volunteers contribute at least 18 hours of public service a year.
The program is sponsored by the Washington Department of Ecology Coordinated Prevention Grant program through the City of Port Angeles Solid Waste Division. For more information about Master Composters contact recycling@cityofpa.us.
