The Waterfront Trail follows the waterfront of the Port Angeles harbor.
This 6.5 section of trail
extends from the Coast Guard Station entrance gate on Ediz Hook to just west of the old Rayonier mill site before connecting to the Olympic Discovery Trail at Morse Creek.
This community project has been realized by the support of the City of Port Angeles, Jet-Set Soroptomist Rotary Clubs, and many local businesses and clubs.
The Trail has become a tranquil retreat for all who use it - whether hiking, jogging, biking, or just seeking a quiet respite from the daily grind.
North Olympic Discovery Marathon - from Sequim to Port Angeles The Olympic Discovery and Waterfront Trails are the route for the annual North Olympic Discovery Marathon. This marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier.
The Marathon began at Carrie Blake Park in Sequim with the finish at the City Pier in downtown Port Angeles.
Participants come from not only our local area and Washington State, but also from Oregon, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Alaska, California, Nevada, Florida, Montana, Arizona, Canada and parts of Europe.
This year marks the marathon's 4th anniversary. Over 1200 participants, (800 competing in the full marathon) and 600 plus volunteers contribute to the success of this event. The winner in the men's division was Preston Brashers of Renton and the winner of the women's division was Yukiko Nishide of New York.
The City of Port Angeles had their own team consisting of both council and staff members: Karen Rogers, Clark Bussell, Nathan West, Grant Munro, Dan McKeen and Betsy Wharton. The City team crossed the finish line at 4 hours and 43 minutes.
Be A Volunteer with the Adopt-A-Trail Program The Peninsula Trails Coalition and your Waterfront Trail needs volunteers to help keep it in shape.
Whether you're an indoor person, or someone who loves the outdoors; like to be alone or in a crowd; whether you're good with plants or a computer; there is a volunteer spot for you on the Waterfront Trail.

Olympic Discovery Trail
The Waterfront Trail is a section of a larger trail system called the Olympic Discovery Trail. The Olympic Discovery Trail is planned to eventually run from Port Townsend to Forks, a distance of approximately 150 miles.

Dry Creek Bridge and Trail Planning This is a planning project for a critical trail segment on the North Olympic Peninsula.

The project covers the engineering and planning effort for 4 miles of trail, including a difficult bridge crossing, and other work needed prior to construction.
The need for this project has been defined in terms of five essentials:

Safety
Quality of Experience
Extension of existing trail systems
Needs stated in public plans

Morse Creek Trestle Repainting Project On August 13, 2005 volunteers repainted the railings of the Morse Creek Trestle. The rails were sanded and repaired in advance by Stan Macklow and David LeRoux.

A total of 50 person hours were spent on the project. Materials included 20 gallons of wood stain, brushes, buckets and rags, all furnished by the City of Port Angeles.

Access Points
The Waterfront Trail is accessible from many places. The Francis Street Park, the City Pier and the Valley Creek Estuary Park are just three of the many ways your visitors can use the trail.
City Pier
The City Pier is located at the north end of Lincoln Street on the Waterfront.
The Pier offers views of the harbor and Port Angeles. Besides a park atmosphere - the City Pier offers a marine life center and viewing tower.
Francis Street Park
This park is a main access point for Water Front Trail users.
Sweeping views of the harbor are what makes this a community show case park for our local citizenry and visitors. Features include, handicapped parking for easy access to the trail and lookout pavilion.
Valley Creek Estuary Park Combined effort between the City of Port Angeles and other local organizations.
The Friendship Bridge symbolizes the relationship between the cities of Port Angeles and Mitsu, Japan.
As you tour the Trail you will be informed about harbor activities, wildlife and refuge areas and the dynamic Port Angeles community.
The Trail offers easy access to our shoreline and beaches - as well as restaurants, shops and other facilities along the way. Click on this image to view a larger size.

The Waterfront Trail is an ongoing project and future expansion will make it an increasingly valuable asset and true Northwest experience.
Ambassador Program
The Port Angeles Parks & Recreation Department is looking for volunteers to help with their new Waterfront Ambassador Program.
A Waterfront Ambassador Team Member is an official representative of the City and area businesses along the Port Angeles Waterfront. They will monitor activities and greet visitors to the Port Angeles Waterfront from Valley Creek Estuary Park, along the Waterfront Trail to the City Pier and beyond to Francis Street Park. They will have the opportunity to give the "Red Carpet" treatment to all who visit the area.

Memorial & Donation Policy
The Parks Commission adopted a new policy for memorials and donations as of October 20, 2005.
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines, standards and procedures for the installation and care of donated park improvements, either as a result of a cash or physical property donation.
These donations may include, but are not limited to, park benches, bicycle racks, picnic tables, public art, monuments (by exception only), drinking fountains, flags, and other types of park trails accessories. This policy does not apply to buildings or land.
The City desires to encourage donations while at the same time manage aesthetic impacts and mitigate on-going maintenance cost.
Guidelines established by this policy will apply to all donations made after the effective date of this policy. Donations made prior to the adoption of this policy shall be subject to applicable sections of this policy. This policy is also designed to provide guidelines for individuals or groups should they desire to decorate, landscape or adorn a donation, such as a tree, bench, or picnic table on city owned property.
Standards established by this policy will apply to purchased equipment, installation techniques, donation acknowledgements, decoration and long term care of all donations made after the adoption of this policy.
