The Conrad Dyar Memorial FountainLocated in the heart of downtown Port Angeles, at the intersection of Front and Laurel Streets is a park named in memory of Conrad Dyar, former Port Angeles City Park Board chairman in the early 1960's.

Originally called the "Laurel Street Circle", this park features many sitting areas, flower baskets and a mural that covers the wall area behind the fountain. The park is a favorite place to sit for both shoppers and others visiting the downtown area.

Conrad E. Dyar / June 30, 1910 - March 4, 1965

Mr. Dyar was born in Spokane on June 30, 1910 and moved to Port Angeles in 1937.

Conrad Dyar photo taken by Rogers Studio, circa 1960Mr. Dyar was a member of the Port Angeles City Park Board. He gave endless amounts of his time to the business of Port Angeles parks, as well as to the community in general.

Mr. Dyar's services as chairman on the City Park Board and the community in the 1960's helped in many ways to make the city a nicer place to live.

One practice of his was to personally look over each park on a regular and frequent basis in order to know from firsthand knowledge the condition of each park.

Mr. Dyar died on March 4, 1965 from injuries he received in an accident at the then Rayonier plant in Port Angeles leaving behind a wife and three daughters.

"Anyone attending a meeting of the parkboard
found him well aware of the situation at any of the city's parks.
It was with this manner and spirit
that he took part in the life of Port Angeles."
- Del Price
