RIBBON CUTTING FOR NEW ERICKSON PARK TENNIS COURTS
Reconstruction of the Erickson Park Tennis Courts has been completed and were celebrated at a special ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, August 29, 2007. The public joined the City of Port Angeles and the Peninsula Tennis Club as the ribbon was cut and the first ball served up for play on these completely reconstructed tennis courts.

Representatives of Olympic Electric and Lakeside Industries help Councilmembers cut the ribbonCutting the ribbon and hitting the first ball were City Council and City Park & Facilities Oversight Committee members Gary Braun, Grant Munro and Edna Petersen - along with Councilcouncil Member Richard Headrick.

The $215,256.66 project included reconfiguring the original 5 courts into 4 courts that now meet United States Tennis Association standards.

The project was funded in part by Peninsula Tennis Club donations of $22,100 and grants from the United States Tennis Association of $46,400 with the City funding the remaining $146,756.66.

Players walk out for the very first time on the new courts

"These are brand new courts and they are gorgeous," said Peninsula Tennis Club President Laurel Cripe. "Players will see a huge difference.

The layout is great with regulation rims along each court. These new courts will allow for extended play well into the winter months because of their great drainage."

Immediately following the ribbon cutting, one of the new courts will be set up for drills and games with mixed double play available for anyone that wants to play. The Peninsula Tennis Club is also planning a large "Grand Opening Tennis Festival" to be held next spring.

Skate Board Park
Skate Board Park project in progress.

Have you heard the buzz? Our skate park is known as one of the top skate parks within the Pacific Northwest thanks to its three-bowl layout and extra smooth concrete.

While the City of Port Angeles donated the land space for the skate board park, the Rotary Club headed the fund raising process for the $200,000 project. Ground was broken on the project in April 2005 with the park being officially open on Labor Day of 2005.

The park will be open daily from 8am until dusk and is now under the managed by the City Recreation Division of the Public Works Department.

Call 360-417-4550 or email for more information about the operation of the park.

Contractor was Dreamland Skatepark Design & Construction from Oregon. Please contact these Rotary members for more information about the building and design of the facility:
