BUSINESS LICENSE EXPANSION
June 5, 2007 - City Council agreed to table this issue while more research is done on the details of the ordinance. No future meetings are scheduled at this time.
May 3, 2007 -
Over the last couple of years City staff and various City Council committees have discussed the need to modify and update the Port Angeles Municipal Code (PAMC) regarding business licenses. The City currently licenses 133 businesses that are required to be licensed by Washington State Statute.
To adequately carry out the duties and authority delegated to the City by the Washington State Constitution and the laws of the State, it is necessary for the City to maintain accurate and current information regarding business, trade, service and commercial activities conducted in the City. The most efficient method to acquire and maintain such information is through a program of licensing and registering businesses.
Licensing and registering businesses provides necessary information to assist the City in carrying out its Public Safety mission through efficient responses from Police and Fire Departments, plan for essential public services including infrastructure (streets, utilities, etc.), promote economic development opportunities, and maintain a sustainable and vibrant community.
Current Business License Requirements:
Not all businesses are required to seek a business license from the City. There are, however, certain specific types of businesses that are required to seek a license, as follows:
Ambulances
Charitable Solicitations
Dances
Dancehalls Where Intoxicating Liquor is Sold or Served
Fireworks
For-Hire Vehicles
Horse Taxis
Hotels and Motels
Junk Dealers and Secondhand Dealers and Pawnbrokers
Adult Entertainment Businesses License
Outdoor Music Festivals
Peddlers and Hawkers
Transient Merchants
Religious Solicitation
Tattooing
Public Utility Tax - Occupation License
Fire Extinguisher Service Business License
If you are conducting business in any of the above categories, please contact the City Clerk at City Hall, 321 E. 5th Street, call 360-417-4634 or by email at: cityclerk@cityofpa.us to obtain a business license application and further information.
In most instances, the annual fee for a business license is $25.00, and the license year is July 1 through June 30. Once an application is received and the fee paid, the City Clerk’s office can typically issue a business license in 3-5 working days.
